I was born and grew up in the North East of England and
qualified in Medicine at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1991. After junior posts in Middlesbrough, I undertook specialist
training in Respiratory and General Medicine at Guy’s, St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospitals, London.
I undertook a 3-year research project in the early detection of lung cancer at University College, London and the Laboratory
for Molecular Biology at Cambridge during this time. After this I undertook a locum Consultant post at Charing Cross and the
Hammersmith Hospitals, London for 6 months. My post as Consultant Respiratory Physician at Southampton General Hospital commenced
in March 2006.
My main clinical interests are Lung cancer and Mesothelioma,
Tuberculosis, Respiratory Physiology and Bronchoscopy as well as all aspects of diseases of the chest and lungs. I have training
and experience in medico-legal report writing. At Southampton General I lead on respiratory education for undergraduate medical
students. I have a continued research interest in the early detection of lung cancer and am writing up my research.
Personal Interests: playing badminton,
the history of medicine, cricket and time with my two boys. I manage AFC Hiltingbury under 9s football, which is almost a
full-time post in itself!! In the summer I help coach the under 9s at Compton and Shawford Cricket Club.
