Dr Simon Bourne MB BS, MRCP(UK), DM
I graduated from University College London in 1995 and completed my core medicial training in
London (The Brompton Hospital) and Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey. I gained MRCP in 2000, and completed my higher medical
training in respiratory and general medicine in 2007 in the Wessex region. During my higher specialist training I completed
a doctorate in medicine through the University of Southampton on exacerbations of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
(COPD - used to be known as emphysema and bronchitis).
I started my consultant post at Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2007 and practice
respiratory and general medicine. I am the clinical lead for COPD and continue an academic interest with a research group
within the university studying mechanisms of infection in patients with COPD. I am a senior lecturer within the University
of Southampton for respiratory.
My main interests are COPD, asthma, asbestos related lung diseases and respiratory infections
but I am happy to see patients with any general medical problem.
I also see patients persuing medico legal action, and write medicolegal reports for their
solicitors.
I am married with 3 children and my main hobbies are skiing, dancing and running.
